The area dates back to the 1820s and is still a site of historical beauty. The Richmond Bridge, built by convicts in the 1820s, is the oldest bridge in Australia. Wander down the Coal river and enjoy a picnic along side the bridge. Feed the ducks and lounge in the sun with your family before continuing on your Richmond adventure.

Visit the Old Hobart Town Model Village and explore the full history of Richmond in miniature! The Richmond Gaol is also a very popular attraction. It is the oldest gaol in Australia, and it remains a creepy site to this day. Explore the rooms and imagine what it might have been like in those stone cells over a hundred years ago in Van Dieman’s Land.
Every Saturday you can find the Richmond Village market, in and outside the town hall. This is a great opportunity to discover what the local businesses, farmers and artists have to offer. The market has a very charming atmosphere that only a small town can provide.
Don’t forget to check out the local craft boutiques and be sure to stop by the lolly shop. Here you can sit down for a bite, or just pop in to buy some delicious local sweets, as well as lollies from around the globe.
Just outside the village, it's always worth a stop for a bite to eat and some delicious local wine at Puddleduck vineyard, where wine tasting is available in a gorgeous setting. The Wicked Cheese company also has some scrumptious local produce, proving Richmond is the perfect location for a local wine and food day trip.
